The Black Broderie design courts controversy, lacing together layers of the key motif from Melody’s Kiss artwork, itself a homage to ‘Joe Peter Witkin’s 1982 ‘The Kiss’ photograph, depicting a real head cut in half with both sides kissing each other. The question is; does it remain controversial when sketched and patternised to the extent that it is nearly disguised?
